Save Your Tunes Part 2

You’ve got your files on your computer. Maybe you’ve downloaded some. Maybe you’ve learned how to extract your music from your CDs in our earlier article here. Some MP3 players, like iPods and iPhones, might not play your songs even though they are music files now. This is because the formats on iPods and iPhones are different from the formats on your computer so you need yet another piece of savvy open source technology to put your music onto your music player, MediaCoder.

MediaCoder is a trascoder, which means it changes the formats of audio and video files. Most media transcoders can deal with just a few file types but MediaCoder is built with widespread coverage in mind and can handle many different file types.

To use MediaCoder :

 - Download and install MediaCoder by clicking the link
   above.

 - Once the installation is finished, open MediaCoder
by clicking on the icon on your desktop or start
   menu.

 - MediaCoder will take you to the MediaCoder homepage.
This is so that MediaCoder can download the latest
   file extensions.

 - Click on “Start MediaCoder Now” at the bottom of the
   webpage to start MediaCoder.

 - You will see MediaCoder on your screen.

 - Upload your music into the program by simply dragging
it from your computer and dropping it into the left
   field.

 - Click on “Extensions” in the menu at the top of the
screen and select the device you would like to listen
to your music on (iPod, MP3 player, etc.) from the
   drop down menu.

 - Click “Yes” in the box that appears and a new screen
will come up showing a picture of your device with a
square of buttons at the left.

 - Press “Start” and MediaCoder will start transcoding
   your media.

 - The process will take a different amount of time
depending on the size of your file and the file type,
but MediaCoder is one of the fastest transcoders
   around.

 - That’s it! Your file is ready for your electronic
   device!

Once you go over these steps a few times you will see just how easy to use MediaCoder is and this is a good thing. There are not a lot of transcoders out there and anyone who has tried another will quickly see how much faster and more reliable MediaCoder is than the others and that it’s worth learning to use.

Have new fun with all of your old music!

Save Your Tunes Part 1

Music CDs are going the way of 8-tracks and cassette tapes. Very few people have portable CD players any more. Instead, everyone has iPods, iPhones and MP3 players now.

There is a way to turn CDs into music files. It’s called a CD extractor or a ripper. CD rippers extract the files from music CDs and turn them into audio files on a computer. Once the files are on the computer they can be played or uploaded into music devices like any other audio files.

At Uberdownloads.com, we have many different CD rippers, each of them good in their own way see them here, but if you want a CD extractor that is top-of-the-line free ware and easy to use then we suggest CDex.

CDex is a good example of a CD extractor program because CDex has a simple interface designed for the inexperienced, casual user.

To use CDex:

 - Download and install CDex from the link above

 - Click on the CDex icon on your desktop to start
   CDex

 - Insert a music CD

 - CDex will recognize the CD and show you the songs
   that are on the disk

 - Just click the icon in the right vertical bar and
   CDex will do the rest

CDex copies music files safely without damage to the CD and quickly saves the files on your CD onto your computer so that you can play your music any time or transfer your favorite CDs onto your music player to take with you.

How to Make Your Own DVDs

There is a difference between burning a DVD and making your own DVD. When you burn a DVD, you use a program to create a copy of the DVD but, often, this copy won’t play in a DVD player. If you want a DVD that will play in a DVD player then you need a program that will allow you to make your own DVDs.

When you put a DVD in your DVD player you see a menu with commands like “Play,” “Chapters” and “Features.” That’s how your DVD player is designed to work and that is why a DVD with a movie burned onto it with a normal DVD burning program won’t play—it doesn’t have a menu.

There are a few programs out there that will allow you to create your own DVDs to play in your DVD player, but DVD Styler is one of the best. We suggest DVD Styler as your solution for making your own DVDs because it is easy to use, effective and fun.

DVD Styler allows you to create DVDs with menus and burn your movies onto a fully playable DVD. From home movies to personal projects, DVD Styler will allow you to store and show others your movies.

DVD Styler supports several ways to customize your DVD:

 • Upload your own image to use as the menu background
 • Choose your button commands such as “Play”, "Chapters”
   and “Features”
 • Customize your buttons
 • Upload your own movies!

Using DVD Styler is simple and in just a dozen simple steps you can have your own playable DVD:

 - Download DVD Styler.
 - Follow the simple installation instructions.
 - Click on the DVD Styler icon when the installation
is finished. The icon will appear on your desktop
   and in your programs.
 - Select Directories from the vertical buttons on the
left to begin selecting your video.
 - A menu with your computer's directory will open.
Select your video from your computer's directory.
The two most common places to find videos are on
your desktop and in your My Documents folder.
 - Select Background from the vertical button menu to
select your menu background. This background will be
what people first see when they insert your DVD into
   a DVD Player.
 - Select Buttons from the vertical menu to choose your
buttons from a list of icons. You will probably want at
least a "Play" button to start your video.
 - Right click your button and select Properties.
 - Link your buttons to your video by selecting your video
from the list of directories at the top Properties screen.
 - Right click on the screen and select Add then Text to
label your buttons and title your DVD.
 - Now just click the gear at the top of the screen to
   burn your DVD.
 - Once the burning process is complete you have your
very own copy of your video!

With DVD Styler, just as people once kept their home movies on video cassette and popped them into the VCR you can now create your own DVDs that will play in your DVD player.

Try out DVD Styler and see if making your own DVDs is for you.
